Mount Royal University’s weekend started rough — an 18-0 loss to Saskatchewan — but they steadied themselves with a 3-1 win over Calgary behind a strong start from Riley Chapman. UBC Okanagan got them back Sunday, 8-1, and Calgary closed out SAIT’s weekend with a 7-0 win.

Makayla Douglas provided the highlight of the weekend with a grand slam and four RBIs against Regina. Alex Thain and Christina Van De Velde were steady contributors at the plate throughout. In the win over UBC Okanagan, Joceline Keller and Douglas each drove in two runs to lead the way.

Standings

The standings shook up significantly this week. UBC Okanagan and University of Victoria remain locked in a tie atop the league — same win percentage, same runs scored, same runs allowed. The next tiebreaker on the books is a coin toss, but that’s reserved for the end of the regular season, not a mid-season standings snapshot, so the two teams stay tied at #1 for now. We’ll see if next week’s results sort it out on the field.

Below them, there was plenty of movement. Lethbridge’s perfect weekend pushed them up a spot to #3. University of Saskatchewan also climbed a spot to #4, and Mount Royal moved up one to #5. The biggest mover was Calgary, who dropped three spots to #6.

Up Next

That’s a wrap on Week 4. With UBC Okanagan and Victoria still deadlocked at the top and half the league separated by results that came down to the final inning, the race is as tight as it’s been all season. Week 5 should go a long way toward sorting things out and determining the playoff brackets. Next week we’re back to a split weekend with UVic, UBCO, U of S, and U of R playing in Victoria while U of L, MRU, SAIT, and U of C are back in Lethbridge. Full schedule here.
