The University of Calgary Dinos had a strong weekend showing highlighted by dominant pitching and timely hitting. They opened against the University of Lethbridge with two decisive wins. Chloe Kinghorn was the star in the opener, driving in five runs—including a three-run homer—as Calgary rolled to a 9-0 victory. Later that day, Madison Belden stole the spotlight in the circle, tossing a no-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 7-0 win. Supported by 12 hits, including three from Kinghorn, the Dinos’ offense showed both patience and power at the plate.

Their toughest matchup came against UBCO Heat, where a big fourth inning proved costly. The Heat struck for four runs and held Calgary to just one hit in a 7-0 shutout. Despite turning a double play and working to stay disciplined at the plate, the Dinos couldn’t break through against UBCO’s steady pitching. The setback, however, set the stage for a dramatic bounce-back performance against the University of Victoria the following day.

On Sunday, Calgary showed resilience, first mounting a thrilling walk-off comeback against Victoria. Down 6-1 in the sixth, the Dinos erupted for six runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 7-6, capped by Manyika Reyes’ game-winning single. They carried that momentum into the rematch, using a five-run fifth inning to secure a convincing 9-2 victory. Belden returned to the circle with another solid outing, while hitters like Reyes, Friedt, and Miller delivered multi-hit performances. Closing the weekend with four wins in five games, Calgary proved they can win both through pitching dominance and offensive grit.

“I’m very proud of the way the team played this weekend. A big character win on Sunday morning against UVic.”
