The University of Saskatchewan Women’s Softball team put together a strong weekend on the diamond, highlighted by an offensive outburst and consistent pitching. The team opened with a 9-6 victory over Mount Royal University, where Chantelle Fehr’s four RBIs and steady contributions from Emily Jezowski and Taryn Moehler powered the bats. Later that day, the U of S showed grit in a tight 3-2 loss in the rematch, as Jorja Kezema battled through six innings in the circle and Tao Denis chipped in with a timely RBI.

On Saturday evening, the team bounced back with a statement win against provincial rival University of Regina. Behind a stellar complete-game shutout from Emma Maurice, Saskatchewan cruised to a 3-0 win. Maurice not only dominated with eight strikeouts but also drove in a run at the plate, while Amanda Paquette provided a two-RBI boost. The defensive effort was equally sharp, with the Saskatchewan outfit playing error-free softball and turning a key double play.
“We knew we had to bounce back after a tough opening weekend in Calgary, where we went 1-4. This past weekend, we made great strides. Our infielders and outfielders were nearly flawless, and the chemistry between our pitchers and catchers was strong.”
Stacey Dansereau Thomson – Head Coach, University of Saskatchewan Women’s Softball

Sunday capped the weekend with a mix of power and patience. Devyn McLean stole the show against SAIT Trojans, driving in four runs on three hits to lead Saskatchewan to a commanding 16-2 victory. The U of S piled up 17 hits in the rout, with McLean, Makenna Pilbeam, and Jezowski among the standouts. They carried that momentum into the weekend finale, edging SAIT 2-1 in a pitchers’ duel thanks to Allyson McAvoy’s five-inning gem and late-game relief from Maurice. The sweep on Sunday gave Saskatchewan a balanced weekend showing — one that demonstrated both their offensive depth and resilience in close games.
