SAIT breaks into the win column in style: By upsetting the #1 team in the league

SAIT Stuns #1 UBC Okanagan for First Win of the Season

SAIT picked up its first win of the season on Saturday, and did it in the biggest way possible. By knocking off the No. 1 team in the league, UBC Okanagan, 6-5.

After falling behind 1-0 early, SAIT answered right back in the bottom of the first. Makayla Douglas came through with a two-run single to put SAIT on top, 2-1. But the offense wasn’t done yet. SAIT put together a four-run second inning, with Joceline Keller, Natalia Billings, and Olivia Dafoe all coming through with RBI singles to push the lead out to 6-2. From there, SAIT’s pitching and defense did the rest, holding on for the 6-5 win.

Douglas did double duty for SAIT, delivering at the plate and taking the circle as the starting pitcher, working six innings to secure the win.

Keller and Douglas were the engine of the SAIT lineup, each driving in two runs on the day. Dafoe paced SAIT’s hitters, going 2-for-3. The team also showed off a patient approach at the plate, drawing seven walks as a group, with Aly Meyer and Keller each working two free passes.

Defensively, SAIT was flawless, turning a double play and playing error-free ball behind Douglas. Billings anchored the defense with a team-high eight chances in the field.

It’s a signature result for SAIT: a first win of the season that came against the top team in the league, and one this group will be able to point to all season long.

As the league saying goes, “Anyone can beat anyone.” And maybe the new saying should be “Don’t sleep on SAIT.”
