Mount Royal University concludes week two on a 4 game win streak. The Cougars’ 4 consecutive wins was the longest streak in the league this weekend which has allowed them to leap frog to 6th position in the WCSA standings.
The Cougars started with a tough 9–6 loss to the University of Saskatchewan, despite an early burst of runs led by Emma Hache and Jayden Segstro. Their bats came alive again in the following matchup, turning the tables in a 3–2 defensive duel where Kassidy Block’s complete-game performance in the pitcher’s circle anchored the victory. Across both games, Mount Royal’s lineup proved capable of timely hitting, but inconsistency in fielding and pitching lapses cost them in the opener.

Momentum shifted fully in their favour against SAIT, as Mount Royal battled through a back-and-forth contest that ended in dramatic walk-off fashion, 9–8. Grace Cleland and Kaley Kowalchuk highlighted the offensive surge, with late-inning clutch hits driving home the win. The Cougars’ depth showed as multiple players notched multi-hit performances, and the team demonstrated composure under pressure by clawing back after surrendering a seventh-inning lead. The following day, this resilience carried into their matchups against the University of Regina, where hitting depth once again set the tone.
Cleland shined with another three-hit game in an 11–4 win, fuelling a five-run third inning that broke the contest open. The following match of the double-header saw Mount Royal’s bottom-of-the-order production spark a 9–5 victory, with key contributions from Ava Wurzer, Kiera Wagstaff, and Abby Fralic. Strong pitching support from Shae Segstro and clean defence sealed both wins, as the Cougars capitalised on patient at-bats and disciplined approaches at the plate.

“We have been working hard for three years, and it is really nice for the team to put together a great weekend. In all five games we pitched, hit and played good defence. We had a little bend but didn’t break.”
Jason Poole, Head Coach – Mount Royal Cougars
The weekend ended with Mount Royal securing four wins in five outings, signalling growth, balance, and an offence that can produce from top to bottom of the lineup.
