Results for Last Weekend of Regular Season

The last weekend of the WCSA regular season featured exciting regional play.

In Saskatoon, Regina, SAIT, Saskatchewan, and Lethbridge played under warm prairie sunshine. There were many close games with every team picking up wins: Regina (4-1), Lethbridge (3-2), Saskatchewan (2-3), and SAIT (1-4). Every team had individual highlights and quality games. Lethbridge continues to improve throughout the season and will be a tough opponent in the playoffs. Regina had its best weekend yet with 4 wins and very few runs against. Home runs by Jodie Bouvier (Sask) and Erin Walter (Regina). Offensive stars were Kennedy Shorten (6 hits – Regina), Julia Lavier (12 hits – Sask), Molly Mitchell (8 hits – Lethbridge), and Sloane Gordey (5 hits – SAIT). Quality pitching performances were from Erin Walter (3 wins – Regina) and Martina McNeil (1 win, 0 ERA – Sask).

In the hot Okanagan sunshine, the top three teams in the league standings, Calgary, Victoria, and UBCO, battled for bragging rights and playoff rankings. The games were close including 4 ties! Victoria and UBCO started off the weekend playing to a 3 all tie on Friday night. Calgary picked up two close wins against Victoria on Saturday, despite Victoria having more hits. In the lowest scoring game of the season, Calgary and UBCO battled to a scoreless draw in 7 innings with excellent pitching performances by Madison Belden and Mia Pielak for Calgary and Taylor Roeseler, Mikhaela Muir, and Sheyanne Lawrence for UBCO. Although the game was scoreless, it was not uneventful. There were base runners and chances to score almost every inning, and UBCO had the winning run on 3rd in the 7th inning.

On Sunday, the intense games continued. Victoria got some revenge for the Saturday loss to UBCO by coming back with 3 runs in the last inning to win 6 to 4. An individual player highlight for UBCO was Taylor Roeseler who had a catch over the fence to deny a home run and three diving catches in the outfield. It was one of the best individual games by a player this season. The next game between Calgary and Victoria featured more excitement and ended in a 7 – 7 tie with Rachel Bobroske hitting two home runs in the game. The final game of the regular season was UBCO and Calgary battling to a 4 all tie. The crowd was on the edge of their seats for most of the game with great pitching, timely hits, and some amazing fielding. Highlight offensive performances include home runs by Rachel Bobroske (4 – Victoria), Taylor Roeseler (2 – UBCO), Chelsea Mosher (1 – UBCO), Hayley Reid (1 – Calgary), and Chloe Maher (1 – Calgary). Other offensive stars include Jessica Heutink (12 hits, 7 RBI – Victoria), Macey Thoroughgood (9 hits – Victoria), Katelyn Harman (5 hits – UBCO), and Megan Stevens (7 hits, 3 RBI – Calgary).
