Highlights from the 2016 WCSA AGM

The 2016 WCSA AGM was well attended, and discussions were lively. Highlights from the AGM include the creation of a new major award for the league ( still to be named ) that will recognize the player that best exemplifies sportsmanship, dedication to the game, determination to succeed, and success academically while being a member of one of our teams. This is the first award that the players will select one of their peers, as it will be voted on by the players.

Each school will host a weekend this coming year, with playoffs being hosted by Briercrest College. The regular season will begin on Labour Day weekend in Calgary, swing to Regina the following weekend, then back to Calgary, then wrapping up in Saskatoon at the end of September.

The League executive changed a little too this year, seeing Mike Smith resign as vice president so that he could take over the vacant Executive Director position. Mike will continue to look after the league schedule and scorekeeping ( stats ), as he did as Vice president, but will add media relations, league recruitment, and expansion to his portfolio.

President Randy Plishka was reappointed by acclamation for his 3rd consecutive 2 year term.

Vice President saw the nomination and election of Carlie Pagens, for the remainder of the term ( through 2017 ). Carlie will look after the award selection process, and work on updating the Leagues Operating Rules.

Dave Hupman accepted the role of Treasurer for his 3rd term as well.

We welcome Tony Rupp from the University of Saskatchewan as a Director at Large for his first term.

Thank you to all who attended, and who give so much of their time to their teams and the league.
