A split rivalry and late season upsets make for a wide-open Pool B

UBC Okanagan and Lethbridge split their season series, while late wins by Saskatchewan and Regina set up a compelling race for Pool B’s two semifinal spots

2026 WCSA Championship · Saturday, October 3 · Shouldice Athletic Park, Calgary

UBC Okanagan is the #2 seed with a .660 regular season winning percentage, followed by #3 Lethbridge at .620, #6 Saskatchewan at .458 and #7 Regina at .417. They will each play three games Saturday, with the top two advancing to Sunday’s semifinals.

The top seeds know each other well: UBCO and Lethbridge split four regular season games 2–2, with Lethbridge winning the last two. The lower seeds have fresh evidence they can change the order. Saskatchewan shut out UBCO 1–0 on September 26, and Regina beat the Heat 4–1 the next day. In a one-day round robin, those results make every time slot worth watching.

Each team’s path to the semifinals

#2 UBC Okanagan: Answer the final weekend’s challenges

The Heat went 3–1 against Regina, 2–2 against Lethbridge and 3–1 against Saskatchewan in the regular season. Those series favour UBCO overall, but its most recent meetings with Regina and Saskatchewan were losses. Saturday begins with a direct chance to respond to Regina’s 4–1 win.

Willa Bonsall hit .431 with 28 hits; Taylor McRae hit .413 with 20 RBIs and posted a 2.26 ERA; Jayda Labonte added 46 strikeouts and a 2.58 ERA. If UBCO gets past Regina early and reverses Lethbridge’s recent head-to-head momentum at noon, it can take charge of the pool before its 3:30 p.m. rematch with Saskatchewan. Two wins would put the Heat in strong position, with tiebreakers still possible in a crowded finish.

#3 Lethbridge: Keep the bats loud across three games

Lethbridge went 2–1 against Saskatchewan, 2–2 against UBC Okanagan and 3–0 against Regina. The Pronghorns won the last two games of their split series with the Heat. A win over Saskatchewan at 10 a.m. would set up a noon meeting with UBCO that could determine which team wins Pool B.

Jenna Funk hit .470 with seven home runs and 35 RBIs, while Molly Conrad added five home runs and 25 RBIs. Saskatchewan did shut Lethbridge out 4–0 in one of their meetings, so the Pronghorns cannot assume their offence will carry every inning. Start well against Saskatchewan, sustain that run production against UBCO and finish strongly against Regina: that is their most direct route to the semifinals.

#6 Saskatchewan: Recreate the one-run breakthrough

Saskatchewan went 1–2 against Lethbridge, 1–3 against Regina and 1–3 against UBC Okanagan. The Huskies’ 1–0 win over UBCO on the final weekend showed what they can do in a tight game, but Saturday’s middle matchup is just as important. Regina won three of their four regular season meetings despite finishing one seed below Saskatchewan.

Allyson McAvoy recorded 48 strikeouts. Rhyan Amundson hit .414 with 29 hits and 19 RBIs, and Makenna Pilbeam hit four home runs. A win against Lethbridge or UBCO would change the expected order; reversing the trend against Regina would keep Saskatchewan from giving a direct rival an inside track. Combine those results, and a top-two finish is in reach.

#7 Regina: Build on two recent reasons to believe

Regina went 1–3 against UBC Okanagan, 3–1 against Saskatchewan and 0–3 against Lethbridge. The Cougars closed their UBCO series with a 4–1 win on September 27 and have the head-to-head edge over Saskatchewan. Those are two opportunities in the first two time slots to move ahead of teams seeded above them.

Rhyan Sigmeth struck out 109 with a 3.45 ERA; Merceydes Therrien recorded 51 quality at-bats, and Olivia Sigmeth hit .483 in 33 plate appearances. Regina needs to turn its latest UBCO result into another opening win, then protect its advantage over Saskatchewan at noon. Lethbridge outscored Regina 39–7 across three games, so finding more offence in the finale would give the Cougars another route to a top-two place or a stronger position in a tiebreak.

The top two Pool B teams play in Sunday’s 10 a.m. semifinals. The Pool B winner will host Pool A’s runner-up on Diamond 6; Pool B’s runner-up will visit the Pool A winner on Diamond 3. Follow the WCSA schedule and compare the 2026 regular season head-to-head results throughout the day.
