The University of Regina Cougars are the 2017 WCSA League Champions.
Playoff weekend saw the University of Regina go 4 – 0 through round robin play, giving them the top seeded position going into SUnday’s playoff round, where they faced the University of Calgary in the page 1 vs 2 game. While Calgary remained close throughout the game, Regina held the lead throughout, winning 6 – 2. The page 3 vs 4 game matched up the University of Saskatchewan against Briercrest College. Briercrest had made the playoff round the night before, winning an extra inning game 7 – 6 over SAIT Polytechnic. With the win, Briercrest advanced into the page games for the first time in school history. Saskatchewan prevailed 8 – 3, setting up the semi final game against Calgary. As the weather quickly changed, the wind bringing rain and cooling temperatures, the teams had to adjust. Saskatchewan jumped out to an early lead, and broke the game wide open in the 3rd inning. With a 13 – 2 win, Saskatchewan advanced to the final. Unfortunately the rain was steadily getting heavier, the field was getting soft, and the temperature and wind chill was extremely concerning to the coaches and umpires. The decision was made to not play the game, resulting in the University of Regina being awarded the league title. This becomes the second league title for Regina in the last 3 years, the first with Head Coach Andrea Wolf.
